President's corner
I am very positive about 2011 for Beach Buggy Club SA. I believe with the help of our members we can take the club to new heights this year. I especially like the way our Callander is laid out and believe we are in for a few surprises from our run organisers.
Thanks to Visser for volunteering to take over our Newsletter and thanks to MW for doing it the last couple of years, you did a great job.
At our A.G.M. Solly threw R50 on the floor and said "dis 'n donasie vir die klub" in a matter of about a minute there was R380 donated. Hennie learned that the club has a printing problem; he immediately donated a printer and bought two new cartridges.
In Yzerfontein I once again saw that the club has good quality members with lots of feeling for the club.
I would like to mention a few names:
At the potjiekos competition Sandra & Christo donated R400 to be given out as prize money, they bought all the sweets for the kids and "kids" to eat for the weekend - thank you very much for all the effort.
Ouboet was so chuffed with the idea that he also sponsored R200. Johan Visser donated a free Buggy service with oil included.
Goodstuff brought fruit for all to enjoy on the camp, he also pledged a further R200 when he heard we aren't having a raffle to make up for the clubs losses. Don't get me wrong, this does not mean they are good members because they donated money and those who did not, aren't good members, not at all. This only means that we have plenty people in the club that absolutely loves the club and being with their friends. It's not about money, it's about feeling for the club.
Then you get people with initiative like Visser that decides I need a haircut (ek se liewers niks verder hieroor nie). Initiative is always good especially if it is something fun for our members to participate in.
Calenders and membership cards will not be posted this year; you will receive them as soon as you attend a club event. Membership cards have been modified, it does not say "member of BBCSA" anymore, and therefore it can now be used as a flyer by our members. Keep a few in your wallet. If you see an oke' with a Buggy, give him one. All our contact details are on the card. Let me know if you need more cards. Lets all try to get new members this year.
With all this in mind how can this not be a good year ahead for the club?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year guys!
Anton
Hennie se run. 10 Oktober 2010
Yolandie moet lughawe toe met haar suster so ek is sommer my eie co-driver.
Maar by hoek of by kroek kry ons dit elke keer reg. Hel,wie wil nou enige ander plek bly as in Kaapstad.
Weereens jammer.
Moet se dit was n baie lekker uitstappie. Ons maak weer so.

P.S: SHARKS FOREVER.
Christo's Yzerfontein Camp 26-28 November 2010
Hi All.
We left for the Yzerfontein camp site with no idea of what to expect.
We arrived to find most of the buggers already set up with very fancy camping gear in a very clean and nice camp site. Well done Christo.
We got our stuff set up eventually (more than likely to some amusement of the others), as we are not very experienced with the caravan thing yet. The fires were soon going and we did a bit of exploring around the site and down to the water while everything was covered in a soft ocean mist. Very nice indeed.
After this camp I will forever remember the resemblance of Gustav Coetzee and Johan Nel with Asterix and Obelix. Remember them? These blokes take no prisoners when they braai. I think each of them had at least one wild boar on the fire most of the time during the weekend.
We started a drive to Langebaan with me and Christo trailing the bugs in our road vehicles. Sakkie's immaculate new blue bug died on a long uphill and after a quick look it started and off we went again. Low and behold, on the next uphill it died again and I took it in tow back to the camp site. Now, with Sakkie's wife in the car with us, as well as Mika, her friend and our son , I lost site of the rest of the crew while we were chatting up a storm in the car. Eventually I looked in the mirror and realized that Sakkie had gone rather pale. I glanced at my speedo - oh! dear, we were traveling rather rapidly. Sorry Sakkie. Next time I'll take it a bit easier.
Back at the camp I was puzzled as to the cause of the grief of the bug. After at least fifty wrong guesses , we found a chronic lack of petrol to be the main problem in this bug's life. This was soon remedied, much to Flo's disappointment as he had pulled up a chair to enjoy the fun.
We moved back to the entertainment area where Anton showed me two very unusual fruit growing on a tree (these are apparently indigenous to Yzerfontein) and were in red and white variety for all to sample. The party continued in a relaxed fashion with the kids roasting marshmallows , exploring everything , messing about and in general just being kids. Cilliers dished out some pickled naartjie segments that made one's mouth go numb (Boet, is daai goed wettig?). I think they were preserved in jet fuel.
The potjie contest went off smoothly and I was very impressed by the trouble the guys went to ie: plates, napkins and even a plate of hors'de'oeuvres (spelling?) from Carl.
I tasted a (non Kleyn) biltong pot for the first time. Amazing stuff. Guaranteed to kill you due to cholesterol, but who cares?
After a good sleep we packed fairly early in the morning to face a rather stiff south easter on the way home with the caravan while Niel was preparing breakfast for some hungry souls.
It was a good weekend and I think everybody enjoyed it thoroughly. Thanks Christo and Sandra.

Charity Run - 4th December 2010
Everyone gathered at the Goodwood Fire Station at 14h00 - all except me.
Living on the other side of the "Boerewors Curtain" (as Johan calls it!) I took the Goodwood turn off from the N1 and drove to the fire station. At about 14h10 I was still the only one at the fire station and that is when I started getting worried. I looked around and to my horror realized that I was not at the Goodwood Fire Station , but at the Epping Fire Station! After a few frantic calls, I finally got to the Goodwood Fire Station at 14h20.
We left the fire station at about 14h30 and made the short trip to the Western Cape Live Steamers.
What a pleasant surprise. I knew about the model steam trains but never realized that there was such a well organized setup in existence. These model steam locomotives are truly amazing. Most of them are built to the finest detail. The one locomotive has been in operation for the past 24 years. At one stage we were 12 adults plus the machinist, which means that this little locomotive, was hauling approximately 1 ton!
For those who are interested, the Western Cape Live Steamers will be featured on PASELLA on TV2 on the 15th December 2010. They are also having a National gathering sometime in April 2011.
We left the Live Steamers at about 16H00 and headed for Johan's home.
On arriving everyone settled down with the necessary liquid refreshment and the air was laden with anticipation - our President was going for a haircut!
After Johan had given Anton a special Beetroot concoction which will supposedly make his hair grow in record time, there were no more excuses - the time had come.
Mitch and Kareen had another appointment so Kareen was the first one to draw blood. After she and Naomi had taken the necessary souvenirs Eugenie got stuck in.
The Challenge initially started for Anton's hair to be cut to number 4, but soon the stakes were raised (lowered?) to number 2.
As a first pass Eugenie gave Anton a Mohawk cut complete with gel.
After a photo session she took it all the way to number 2.
Next in line was our host - Johan who had agreed (more donations) to have his hair dyed white. The concoction was applied to his hair and was supposed to sit for 30 min.
With all the bull that was being spoken, I think we lost track of the 30 min because Johan's hair turned out - not white, but straw blond!
Johan then tried to camouflage his blond hair by spraying it green. This was a definite improvement - unfortunately it is not permanent.
Not long after that Dugald landed up with a green beard with red side burns (More money in the box).
I am happy to say that I managed to escape unscathed.
Things then calmed down and everybody settled down and started thinking about food.
The fire was lit and the normal process begun. Eugenie provided some very nice salads - Thanks Eugenie!
By this time Johan was on a roll and got his neighbors involved. He managed to part them from more of their hard earned money. (Johan obviously missed his profession - he should be in Sales and Marketing!)
The total amount that was raised was R2200.00
Much later the evening Johan decided to demonstrate his fire blowing skills. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately - we might have had a few number 0's) he only had enough paraffin for 1 and a half flames.
Finally Johan convinced Anton, Naomi, Dugald and I to sleep over and not to tempt the Law.
Sunday morning, after having a glass of Johan's special beetroot cocktail and a cup of coffee, Dugald and I departed just after eight.
Anton and Naomi, who had all the intentions of leaving at 06h00, to prepare for their Biltong stand, were still in Lala-Land when we left!
On behalf of everyone who attended the run, I would like to thank Johan and Eugenie for their hospitality as well as organizing such a great event.
Regards
Niel
Charity Run 4 December 2010
After the beloved (now hairless) chairman had me turned into The Human Torch , I have been using the hairdo to raise more money. It looks like the final amount comes to R2668 - two bags of dry dog food and five tins of food.
Huge thanks to all the members who donated their time and money for this cause.
Also special thanks to Calberg Hydraulic engineers, Tig Welding Centre and Berg Motors for their donations.
I am currently in the process of arranging the official handover with the idea of some photo's and a little narrative ending up in the Tyger Burger. This should boost outside interest in the club tremendously.
May all have a joyous and safe festive season.
Johan
Year end Function and AGM 2010
KAREEN DANTAS: Mitch, myself and the boys had to rush from our Charity event to get to the Beach House by 4pm. But it was well worth it. All my favourite people were there. The food was great but the chocolate mousse was exceptional.
After borrowing Sandra's socks and getting a blankie from Naomi, I was a "happy camper" and ready for the meeting at the clubhouse.
Although there are no ashtrays in the clubhouse, I made other arrangements. Thanks to Hennie and his bottle.
The meeting went off well. It was again mentioned on numerous occasions that I don't read my mail properly ;-(. Yah yah, I've learnt my lesson people.
And then eventually it came time for the "lootjie trek". Sounds more like another type of trekking to me, not raffle trekking. We walked off with 13 boxes of weetbix (clearly my colon is gonna be very clean!), a lekker chocolate (which I donated to the man sitting next to me and whose name I forget), a coffee warmer (which I donated to Naomi) and a car cleaning kit. I was just happy that I won more than Sandra this time - whhhooooooeeeeeee
A great afternoon and evening with wonderful friends - as always.
HLR
NIEL: I think the Yearend was a great success - very good food and even better company.
We can definitely visit the Beach House again!
As far as I am concerned the AGM served its purpose.
It gave everyone the opportunity to speak their minds and to clear the air.
Naomi, you and Anton can rest assured that you have the full backing of the members.
I am convinced that we will be able to move forward with better direction now, and I am looking forward to next year!
Kind regards,
Niel
SANDRA: The Year End was very special this year! Hennie got engaged and it was tears and happy smiles all around! I'm getting a stunning daughter and Hennie a very lovely wife! Congrats my Lovely Child - You make me proud!
I have a lot on my mind and plate for the coming year - Christo and I also put some bling on my finger, as well as deciding to buy a house together. We were nicely surprised when things worked out the way it did.
I want to thank the club members for putting their financial trust in me for the 2009/2010 fiscal year. I'm glad to leave them with a nice amount to carry over to next year! I wish Anton and Naomi all the best for the finances and urge them to contact me whenever they need any help!
Further more, thanks guys for a lovely yearend function!I enjoyed it very much!
We will together make 2011 a year to remember!
Sandra
VISSER: I think the year end function of 2010 was a roaring success.
After some initial confusion at the Beach house when thirty odd buggers walked in , it turned out to be a very well organized little restaurant.
The food was excellent, even if the drinks were a bit pricey , the Olof Bergh and coke special was well used and quite affordable.
Despite some windgat on his Hardley Ableson , with very loud exhaust , causing my car's very sensitive (read female) alarm to trigger repeatedly , we still enjoyed the outing tremendously.
The AGM cleared a lot of air and I look forward to another year in the bug club.
Johan Visser
JOHAN & THERESE: We think the lunch was a pleasant change from the usual. We enjoyed the company and the food. The AGM started on what seemed to be a sad note but it ended in a good spirit. All Naomi and Anton's hard work much appreciated.
Johan & Therese
Huis Slaapplek is R110 per persoon per nag.
Tentstaanplek is R45 per persoon per nag
