Previous Run - Op Die Berg Weekend Camp 5 to 7 February 2010

They say a pictures worth a thousand words so see page one of the newsletter :-) Seriously though, some of the best bits were only captured in video format and therefore cannot be placed here.

Rita and I left work (and home) early in the buggy so we would not need to pitch our tent in the dark. We were joined by Gustaf, Juanita and Ouboet and Leana in their buggy, when we passed through Tulbagh. In Ceres we left them behind as they were going to wait for the rest of the Buggers who did not know the route. Some of the Young Buggers were already at the campsite and we managed to set everything up before dark as planned. A huge fire was lit and was kept alight most of the weekend by the Young Buggers. Buggers started arriving, tents were pitched, more fires were made, you know the drill. The Vissers brought their sandmaster in lieu of a trailer. The Kleyns, Hennie, Christo, Sandra, Floris and some friends joined us (I hope I did not leave anyone out as its been a while). Dave Taylor had some battery issues in Ceres and after a painful visit to the bank he also made it to the camp site in his Carman Ghia. Mitch and Careen only arrived on Saturday Morning and were also contributing to the buggy count.

On Saturday afternoon a veld fire was running amock in the mountains right behind our camp site which had many of the Buggers a bit worried. While the fire was raging Johan and I went looking for some sandy track to try with the buggies, the sandmaster, 4x4 or whatever you wanted to play with. After some guidance from Nicol (the kids have found the sand earlier apparently) we had a good time tearing up all the sandy tracks and went back for reinforcements. Mitch, Hennie and Christo all joined in and I had so much fun I had to rinse Gifappel later to avoid being forever in the dog box. Naomi was suffering from terrible back pain all weekend and we lost some Buggers when she had to throw in the towel and go home. Saturday nights braai was a huge success as usual. Ouboet and Goodstuff were using their electric spitbraai for the umpteenth time and Johan Visser made a Waterblommetjie potjie. During the night a tractor was placed on our campsite to push the veld fire back should it come to close to us.

All good things have to come to an end I suppose, as we all packed up to go home on Sunday morning. Almost all the Buggers left together but as Gifappel was struggling a bit at first, we soon fell behind. In Ceres after refueling, Johan Visser found the loose wire in Gifappels kraaines and we were back in business. The rest of the trip was uneventful apart from the fact that we lost the Vissers - could not reach them by phone and they refused to catch up on the road. Later learnt that they got stuck in a shop in Ceres. This was an excellent camp and I would highly recommend that the organizers consider doing it again next year. ---- MW

Next Run - Bad News MCC run to Tulbagh 7 March 2010

Hi all, we've decided on a venue for our run. It will be to the Boulders Bush Pub in Tulbagh.

Except for Gustav, Ouboet and their families, we all can meet at Shoprite in Bothasig at 8am to leave by 8:15 sharp. You can either choose a breakfast from their menu or you can bring your own meat, grid, wood, etc and have a braai. For bikers visiting the bush pub for the first time, your first drink is on the house. Yay!!!
