Previous Run: Oppie Plaas Sleepover. 9-10 April 2016.
Anton left for Oppie-Plaas on his own. I still had work to do, Biltong manufacturing always comes before FUN!! – So while I was working, Anton left to meet up with the rest of the group. On his way to the Engen N7 stop, Anton met up with JP and Karen, Mitch and Joe. JP was walking back in the direction of Melkbos. Anton thought JP had a breakdown with his buggy and was so Gatvol that he just left everyone at the side of the road and started walking back home! He lost his cap and had to “klap-voete” to get it back.
At the N7 Stop, Anton was greeted by a long convoy of Beach Buggies. After filling up with some Go-go Juice he joined the q. Christo, Mitch, JP, Jan, Jaco, Niel Beer and Vernon. Almost ready to go, Rhoodie phoned to say he is almost there. Waiting for Rhoodie to catch up, everyone looked at JP and Karen’s Beach Buggy. What a sight to behold. Jy het ‘n awesome bugg, Bro!! Wel gedaan en baie baie bly dat jy op jou “1ste” werklike run kon kom. We then left for the farm.
Getting to the farm, the convoy waited for a Zebra to cross (Zebra-crossing- haha) and Sprinbokkies to the left and right of us. Ramkat, Jacques and Lene’s pride
and joy was in the driveway. This is the way to grow!! 2 New Buggies on the run!
Tents was put up and everyone got settled with a “knertsie”. We all went for a little “off-road” drive on the farm. We stopped at a dam along the road to watch the “Pienk-Flaminke”. Everyone had a bear at the dam and then the “sports” started on the sandy roads.
Anton and Christo had to push Niel out of the sand and then Rhoodie was next to his the sand. Dit was sommer ‘n lelike vassit. Yolandi was the driver and she CAN drive!! Aldo fetched the orange bakkie to toe them out! Unfortunately the clutch packed up on Rhoodi’s bugg and he had to be towed back to the camp-site. We kept playing in the sand. Vernon decided to ramp all the holes and Karen had some small heart attacks. Needless to say, Vernon heard all about it.
We got to a place where all the braai-wood was ready for pick-up. We started loading the vehicles for a Bon-Fire. Karen did not like the way Vernon was driving and changed to drive with Karen Dup instead.
Anton jumped in with Vernon and the playing continued. Vernon also told Karin that he needs to see her hands above the buggy at all time – LOL!! Playing in the sand, all the way back we got to the camp site. Needless to say, JP and Karen’s beach buggy did not even feel the sand. Ground clearance and tyres makes all the difference in the world!!
After the boys lit the fire, I got to the farm eventually. My wonderful hubby greeted me with a “welcome” drink and I had some time to greet everyone and just relax. What a magnificent turn out. I was pleasantly surprised to see everyone there. Niel and Marie, I am so glad to see you after such a long time of absence. I know it was not due to lack or willingness to join on the runs, but I MISSED YOU, all the same. It was marvellous just getting to the farm and did not have to set up tent. That was done already. Thank you my husband, for-ever, Anton. After braaiing, on the wood that Jacques cut up with a skill-saw, we “kuierd” till late. Thank you to each and every one of you that made it so special on Saturday night.

Sunday morning we had breakfast. The left-overs was amazing on the coals that was still going from the night before. I had to leave early again to do some more working. Had to pack a big order. Karen and Vernon offered to deliver the order in Bellville. Thank you guys, this was a great help. I do owe you some Biltong or D/Wors!!
Rhoodie was worried about the damage to his buggy. It was hooked to Christo’s orange bakkie and they left to get the family home. The rest of the group stayed to have some more fun in the sand. Vernon and the Joker looked for all the big holes, once again. En dis toe net daar wat die Joker ook sê – ‘n Joke is ‘n Joke, maar nou het ek genoeg gehad! Vernon hit a hole and something hooked on his bumper. It tore a piece out of the bumper and it seemed one of the engine mounting bolts came out.
The back was hanging skew, but Vernon drove Joker back to the campsite, just like that!
Just before everyone left, a new potential member came to visit. He had a very nice Marlborough Buggy. The whole family met up with us as it was time to say good-bye to Jacques and Lene.
Vernon and Karin popped in a while later to pick up the Biltong Stock that had to be delivered to Bellville. We all had a “vaarwel” loopdop at the Clubhouse. Joker on tow!
Thank you Jacques and Lene – your hospitality was awesome. The farm was a great sleep-over and we all enjoyed it very much. Hope to see all of you on Niel and Marie’s run – Sunday 15th May 2016.
